hi:) When kernel booting,there are a serial log printed on the screen, like this: Initial network ... can I redirect these logs into a logfile?How can I do ? Thanks!

schedular / NUMA projects to work on

I am interested to work on schedular/ NUMA projects but I don't have high end hardware to test the results - is there any way (like not sure but - virtualization etc.) I can do it on a quad core single socket machine that I have. -- Shraddha

Kernel Config for Chromium Browser?

I stripped down my .config for my kernel-compilation a bit, but thought that I really just removed unnecessary stuff. But really, the consequency was, that the Chromium Browser didn't load _any_ page. Not even locally and no chrome:// page. It started, but just stayed at a white page. I didn't change the system whatsoever. I know it was the kernel. Does anyone by chance know what parameter caused that behaviour? What does chromium do differently? different than firefox. thanks

Support for kingwin USI-2535U3 (Sata to USB3 adapter)?

All, This might be a project for someone to add kernel support for a low cost piece of equipment ($20 at my local store). == I just bought a kingwin USI-2535U3 (USB3 to Sata adapter) and it is not showing up on my opensuse 12.2 system at all. I've got a 3.4.11 kernel on it. This is the adapter: http://www.ramplus.com/uskiusb30tos.html dmesg isn't even showing any output at all when I plug it in. lsusb is also not showing anything different with it connected vs. not connected. There is a blue light on the unit showing it is getting power. It doesn't claim linux support, but I'm finding it hard to believe that. How can I troubleshoot this to see what's going on. fyi: i actually bought 2 of these, but I have only opened one in case I need to return them for a refund. I don't have a handy way to test it with windows, so I'd prefer to test just with linux. Thanks Greg

Question about printking

Hello, I have a quick question. I (think I) remember Greg KH reviewing some driver patch on staging mailing list, suggesting not to do this sort of printking upon an allocation request failure: ptr = kmalloc(sizeof(foo)); if (!ptr) { pr_err("Cannot allocate memory for foo\n"); return -ENOMEM; } His argue against it was that kmalloc already takes care of reporting/printking a good deal of interesting information when this happens. Is my memory right? Can someone expand a bit on this whole idea? (of abuse of printing, or futility of printing). I'm asking after seeing *a lot* of drivers doing exactly this. Thanks, -- Ezequiel

help with grub rescue?

hi: Excuse me ! Can you help me with my grub error? After I upgrade grub to grub2 , my linux can not boot up. When load from hd1. screen prints this: symbol not found :"grub-putchar" entering rescu mode ... grub rescue > I searched google for solutions.It seems that I shoude repair my grub files. But in this mode ,I only can use "ls" and "set" command . can not use "insmode" command ? so I feel difficulty to fix it . Is there any method to activate all the commands? Can I use a bootable floppy image to boot my linux ? I have download a bootgrub image file , I can use this file directly as a floppy device .and can boot from it , only to see a boot list on the screen . I should select which item to boot ? or something other additional to do? thanks!
