Not at all, any community-based distro is usually good for kernel development, pick one you feel comfortable with and use it.

Greg is right here however since kernel development is generally bleeding edge I generally recommend Arch as the packages are pulled from upstream including gcc. Running the latest c library and tool chains is a high plus in kernel development in my opinion. Nick
