I think it is still valid. If you see include/linux/module.h<http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/include/linux/module.h#L99> , you will see it is just another name of MODULE_INFO . But again in include/linux/device.h<http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/include/linux/module.h#L99> , see the definition of MODULE_ALIAS_CHARDEV .
