help with grub rescue?

hi: Excuse me ! Can you help me with my grub error? After I upgrade grub to grub2 , my linux can not boot up. When load from hd1. screen prints this: symbol not found :"grub-putchar" entering rescu mode ... grub rescue > I searched google for solutions.It seems that I shoude repair my grub files. But in this mode ,I only can use "ls" and "set" command . can not use "insmode" command ? so I feel difficulty to fix it . Is there any method to activate all the commands? Can I use a bootable floppy image to boot my linux ? I have download a bootgrub image file , I can use this file directly as a floppy device .and can boot from it , only to see a boot list on the screen . I should select which item to boot ? or something other additional to do? thanks!

Android Kernel Compilation

I am trying to compile Kernel for my Android device. I am using the NDK Toolchain (arm-linux-androideabi-4.4.3). When I use the defconfig, the kernel compiles without any errors but when I flash it onto my device, it either gets stuck on the HTC logo or continuously reboots. If I pull the config.gz from my device, it gives errors at the tome of compilation. What could have possibly gone wrong?

How to receive DAD notifications in userspace

Hi, I'm trying to retrieve DAD(duplicate address detection) notifications in userspace using netlink sockets. The code snippet is - struct sockaddr_nl addr; sock = socket(PF_NETLINK, SOCK_RAW, NETLINK_ROUTE) addr.nl_family = AF_NETLINK; addr.nl_groups = RTMGRP_IPV6_IFADDR; I'm receiving notifications when an ipv6 address added/deleted for an interface. But I'm not receiving any notifications when the address is in tentative state(dadfailed) I think I have to play with members of struct sockaddr_nl by setting proper values to receive notifications properly. Can anyone please tell me what's wrong in my code . Dear All, This is gaurav. I would like to thank you all for your valuable contribution to this community. I am in process of designing a introductory training module for my students at the university for that i want suggestions from everybody out there. As you people working on the real stuff in industry, you know the potential and importance of good tutorials at the early stage of ones career.I want you to suggest me the topics in the increasing order of the complexity and importance in industrial scenario. I want to divide this module as Basics of Linux Kernel Programming and LDD Programming with some hands on training. I have some ARM LPC2148 board (ARM7),some AVR ATMega 16/32 boards with basic LED Interface,Serial Communication,Relay Interface. I can connect RTC DS1307 over I2C and SD Card through SPI with ARM Board. I am working in the field of embedded electronics product development,Application design using Qt and Training students in embedded since 8+years and i have tried tutorial out there on LDD and taken few topics as guidelines for this tutorial. Every suggestion to devise a good tutorial with examples motivating students to learn the basics of this wonderful field and try something different apart from their curriculum. Where does kernel store per task file position?

Hi Everyone, I was trying to find out where does Linux store per process file position? Since struct file is allocated once when the file is first opened (get_empty_filp() via do_sys_open) .I looked at these, Copy_process--->copy_files-->dup_fd it seemed to allocate only (struct file*) struct files_struct , but I couldn't find any field that is actually being used to store the file position. I'm still not able to figure out where exactly is the position of file stored per task_struct. Secondly even if this was being saved does the kernel changes f_pos of struct file whenever a (read/write) is done? I don't that happens [Correct?]. guides to board files -> device-tree and Android -> mainline?

Hi all, Are there any guides for developers new to Linux for: * converting board files to device-tree * porting drivers and patches from Android to current mainline? There are a lot of ARM mobile devices out there that aren't supported by Linux mainline and having these guides available would really help getting the usual Linux distros to support more mobile devices. GRUB question

hi:) Is /boot/initrd.img a root filesystem? what is the filetype of it? Can I put initrd.img in a floppy to boot system ? thanks!
