Tool to test soft and hardlockups.

Hi Linux alias, I would like to enable softlockup and hardlockup option in Linux kernel and would like to test it to make sure that when soft and hard lockup condition arises we do see kernel taking configured action. Hence was wondering if there is any tool to do the same (basically injecting the errors). Regards, Vipul.

LKD is probably the easiest, I have no comparison between Essentials and LDD, since I have not read essentials. Comparatively ULK might be a bit difficult, but it is one of the best books on the subject. list_empty atomic?

Hello, I have a list that is manipulated by several threads. Insert, remove and iteration are protected by a lock. Is the locking necessary too just for checking if the list is empty, i.e., is list_empty() atomic/safe to call without the lock held or not? thanks -- Filipe David Manana, "Reasonable men adapt themselves to the world. Hi, Can some one please help me understand what does the use of MODULE_ALIAS() achieve? In the simple char driver "drivers/char/hw_random/omap-rng.c", I see the following in addition to the regular stuff. /* work with hotplug and coldplug */ MODULE_ALIAS("platform:omap_rng"); Can some one tell me what is the above indicating?
