hi: How to build targets for every subdirs of kernel ? for example : drivers/* I do not find the rules for build subdir's target thanks!

to implement cntl+c from shell script on minicom

Hi Tushar, I am facing a problem with the above implementation. When target is powered on, logs coming started on minicom. After 1 second the message is coming as "Executing boot script in 3.000 seconds - enter ^C to abort". Here, we need to give cntl+c command to stop the target from auto-boot. We want to flash new image into it. Our task is to automate the process. I tried with the following code to run through runscript. set search_string="Executing boot script in 3.000 seconds" timeout 50 verbose on send "\n\r\n\r" expect { "$search_string" break timeout 2 goto abort } abort: print \nGiving cntl+c command on minicom send "\^C\r" send "\^C" send \^C\r send ^C\r expect { "RedBoot>" break timeout 3 goto panic } print \n!!!!!!Bye Bye runscript!!!!!!! sleep 2 panic: print \n!!!!!!Bye Bye Minicom!!!!!!!\n ! killall -2 minicom What i am observing is , first this script is running then minicom logs start comming. Block device driver: how to terminate the block device if media disappears?

Hi, I have block driver for a hot-pluggable device PCIe storage device on kernel version 2.6.43 (which I know isn't a mainline kernel version, but it's what I am required to build against). The driver itself is relatively simple and implements the following block operations: static struct block_device_operations mydev_ops = { .owner = THIS_MODULE, .open = mydev_open, .release = mydev_release, .getgeo = mydev_getgeo, .ioctl = mydev_ioctl }; and the following PCI driver structure: static struct pci_driver mydev_driver = { .name = DRIVER_NAME, .probe = mydev_pci_init_one, .remove = mydev_pci_remove_one, .id_table = mydev_pci_tbl, }; As well as a request_fn with the following signature: static void mydev_submit_req(struct request_queue *q); Whenever I get IO requests, there is the expected pattern of "open, IO, release", and everything works OK. However, if the device is physically removed during IO, I never seem to get a "release", just "open, IO, hang". I believe (but I don't know), that this is preventing del_gendisk() from completing, thus hanging the cleanup of the driver, which is triggered by mydev_pci_remove_one() upon the removal of the device. I am ending all requests on the queue once an eject happens, but it still doesn't seem to cause a release. What is the right way to terminate requests and delete the gendisk in the case of physically vanished PCI devices (or even devices in general)? Thanks in advance for any pointers to a solution and apologies to the IRC folks for annoying them with the same question! John Beard

Hello, Building a install-able build for linux Kernel, that is it. I have done these: $ make help $ make ARCH=x86 defconfig $ make ARCH=x86 $ make ARCH=x86 module_install gave error nothing to make $ make ARCH=x86 install gave error lilo needs to to be installed. The kernel is built (for all processor types along with multiprocessor support as well), vmlinux.iso and bzimage.iso is there, the libraries are built, modules need to be configured though with grub/ lilo. Will get Lilo installed or a grub creator (what do I use for this?). /boot, /kernel, /library, /.... are there. I do not have /bin, /usr, /etc folders in this. Am I missing something or will that be built during the process. Can someone help me with the steps and syntax's just ahead step by step (like above) further to make a Installer CD and workable boot to be written to a system? The system does not boot with the above, even with a complete copy paste to USB or to a CD. i will take care of complexities myself, just mention any dont's or do's for configuration that is all, I will need help with. Regarding module init function

Hi, This may be stupid question. When we compile external module and insert it, it's init function is called and when we remove it, it's exit function gets called. What happens in case of built-in modules? When it's init and exit is called? May be take example of one of auxdriver. Thanks, Rahul

hi: for a socket file point , what will this function do ? file->f_op->poll(); ///poll is declared in the file-operations struct . but I do not find this function's definition . Is there some advice? thanks!

Hello everybody, I am tracing the boot kernel process (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Linux-i386-Boot-Code-HOWTO) and I have a question: GNU/GRUB loads vmlinuz at 0x7c00 memory, does not it? And then, the first instruction CPU executes is in bootsec.S, does not it? Have I understood well? I do not if this is the place for this question. Regards, Román.
