Please keep "kernelnewbies" intact....

from what I see, you forgot to enable CONFIG_ACPI. See this line?
-CONFIG_ACPI=y
I might be mistaken, so pls check your current kernel config, not the
default one from the RPM (you did use the one from kernel RPM as the
basis, do you?)
