The first thing i would do is find a relevant mailing list.  This isn't it.

Fyi: when you find it, please send me a private message.  I too would like to learn suricata.  I'm trying to package it for opensuse right now.  Step one for me is to get libprelude added to the distro.  That is under review and should happen this week.
