what is the mutt configurations? would you paste it? what did you configure as smtp settings on the mutt? Please paste it. if you don't show us the error message and the configuration, we can't help you at all.

This is the error I am getting . Did you have a VPS in US or other country? I have this trouble before, so this email send from my VPS(as you posted,mutt + gmail with imap) in US.
