You should stick to longterm or current branch,
see https://www.kernel.org/
note that stable can be End-of-Life = EOL
stable: 4.12.3 2017-07-21
stable: 4.11.12 [EOL] 2017-07-21
longterm: 4.9.39 2017-07-21
