What's the difference between /proc/vmcore and /proc/kcore ?

My take on it is that /proc/kcore is a mapping of the raw virtual memory,
so it looks like a humungous sparse file.

/proc/vmcore is a ELF-formatted version of the same thing which would be
more suitable for storing on a hard-drive.
